Beijing Universiade to Beat Participation Record

The Beijing World University Games is expected to draw 7,000 athletes from 166 delegations and beat the record of 6,009 participants held by last Games in Palma, Spain, in 1999, said a press release of FISU e-News.

FISU president George E. Killian has visited different venues and locations and "was impressed with the work accomplished", the press release reported.

Killian found Beijing "has done an outstanding job" and said: " I don't know any other place on earth where the infrastructures are better than those at Beijing, according to the release.

FISU secretary general Roch Campana said that Beijing has been ready for its first world multi-sport event which will kick off on Wednesday.

"For the moment all the facilities, all the work are excellent. So for the moment we have no complaints," he said. "I can say that we are very happy with all this preparation. We know that everything would be of the highest quality in the organization."
