Cuba Aims for Best Results at UniversiadeCuba will try to produce good performances at the 21st World Universiade, a leading official of the Cuban delegation said Saturday in Beijing."Though the size of our delegation is much smaller than that of last Universiade, our athletes are very competitive," said Iran Gonzalez Perez, head of the delegation. "Among the athletes are five world champions, one silver medalist and four bronze winners in world championships," he said. "We'll try to achieve the best results at the University Games." The Cuban delegation includes 32 athletes, of which 14 are female, featuring at track and field, swimming, diving, judo and fencing. "Beijing is beautiful and the people are friendly," Perez told Xinhua. "I'm sure the Universiade will be a great success and the 2008 Beijing Olympics as well." Cuba snatched 12 golds, 3 silvers and 12 bronzes at the 20th Universiade in Palma, Spain, placing third behind the United States and Russia on the medal table. |
