Top Chinese Legislator Meets Maldivian GuestLi expressed appreciation for Hameed's contribution to promoting the contact between the Majlis and the NPC. He said that Sino-Maldivian relations have developed steadily on the basis of the five principles of peaceful coexistence since the two countries forged diplomatic ties in 1972. He said he believes that Hameed's current visit will further the understanding and friendship between the two countries. Li noted that China has strengthened the unity and cooperation with developing countries, and taken this as a cornerstone for its foreign policy. Developing long-term friendly relations with Maldives is China's established policy. Li expressed a positive attitude toward the economic and trade cooperation between China and Maldives, hoping that the two countries would conduct more contacts in the political and economic fields. On the contacts between the two parliaments, Li said the NPC has attached importance to promoting friendship with the parliaments of other countries in the world, and is willing to make more efforts in this regard with the Majlis. Li also spoke highly of the adherence of the Maldivian government to the One-China policy. Hameed said that Maldives and China have maintained close contact, and the Maldivian government thanks the Chinese government for its long-term support in all fields, especially its concern over the issue of security of the small nations in the United Nations. He noted that Maldives will, as always, contribute to furthering the friendly relations with China. |
