The Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance (SCSC) of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Saturday started its third meeting of the year in Dalian, coastal city in northeast China.

Some 100 representatives from 20 APEC member economies and five relevant organizations attended the meeting, who dwelled on such issues as standard alignment, cognition of conformity assessment, cooperation on technical infrastructure construction and transparency.

According to Chairman Li Shaoqing, the meeting is held under the theme of making domestic standards of APEC member economies aligned to international standards, reaching agreements on cognition of conformity assessment including compulsory and voluntary mutual recognition arrangements, promoting cooperation in technical infrastructure construction, and ensuring the transparency in standards and conformance among APEC economies, so as to promote regional trade and investment.

SCSC is the biggest and most important sub-committee in the Trade and Investment Committee under the APEC Senior Officials' Meeting. Standards and conformance is one of most active and fruitful fields in APEC.

SCSC convened informal meeting Friday and participants held a workshop on DeclareNet, business-to-government e-service website, and legal construction.

Yao Xiaoyan, Chinese representative from the State General Administration of Quality Supervision and Quarantine, gave a presentation at the workshop, briefing on China's legal system and legislation background, procedures and transparency.

The administration is responsible for hosting this year's SCSC meetings and relevant activities. SCSC held the previous two meetings in February and May in Beijing and Shenzhen, respectively.
