Czech Flag Hoisted at 21st Universiade Athletes' Village

Frantisek Taborsky, the head of the Czech delegation participating in the 21st Universiade in Beijing, said Saturday that the remarkable changes of Beijing, the capital of China which has a long history, have left him very good impression.

Attending the flag-raising ceremony of his delegation, Taborsky said,"I have come to Beijing twice, and I have a very nice feeling here." He also expressed his thanks to the Organizing Committee of the Universiade and all the working staff here for their best service.

Referring to his delegation, Taborsky said there are 86 athletes in his 130-strong delegation who will compete in nine sports. "I think we have good chances in swimming and tennis," he said, adding that maybe some will gain better results in the track and field.

He hoped that the Czech soccer team will also do a good job.

Although some Czech professional athletes are unable to compete in the Universiade, the Czech team is competitive in some sports or events, he added.

On the 2008 Olympic Games to be held in Beijing, Taborsky said, "I am sure that will be a very big event."

Beijing is qualified, maybe overqualified for hosting the Olympics, he said with a smile.

He wished the forthcoming 21st Universiade to be held in Beijing from August 22 to September 1 success.
