China Strengthens Fights against Pirated ProductsThe Chinese Ministry of Culture plans to close down over 200 markets dealing in dubious audio- video products by December.By the end of July, more than 120 audio-video products markets had been shut down and another 80 had agreed to a time-table for closing, the newspaper quotes Zhang Xinjian, vice-director of the ministry's Market Department, as saying. Housing an estimated 7,000 retailers, these markets provide chances for groups of small-scale vendors to peddle their dubious tapes CDs, VCDs and DVDs, Zhang said. The sheer number of people selling potentially illegal goods made it difficult, if not impossible, for law enforcement officials to supervise, therefore more efforts should be made to secure a fair competition on those markets, Zhang said.
