Madame Tussaud's HK Celebrates First Year AnniversaryMadame Tussaud's Hong Kong, the wax portraits museum located at The Peak on Hong Kong Island, celebrated its first year anniversary with a balloon launch ceremony Friday.Peter Carson, general manager of Madame Tussaud's Hong Kong, said at the ceremony, "Breaking new ground in the Asian market and adapting to local cultural preferences have certainly assisted us in shaping the exhibition we have here today." Several celebrity portraits, including film stars Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh, business tycoon Li Ka Shing, champion windsurfer Lee Lai Shan and more recently, Canton-pop Andy Lau, have been introduced to give the exhibition a distinct Asian flavor. The exhibition now features around 100 local and international celebrity portraits. The projected visitor volume for 2001 is more than 200,000. Madame Tussaud's Hong Kong will donate 5 Hong Kong dollars ( about 64 U.S. cents) from every admission ticket sold Friday to the Matilda Sedan Chair Race Charities Fund. Madame Tussaud's London, started in 1884, draws over 2.5 million visitors a year. It's Hong Kong museum is the first permanent one in Asia.
