Farmers From Beijing Suburbs Earn More

The per capita actual cash income of farmers from the suburbs of Beijing for the first six months of the year stood at 2,942 yuan (about 354.5 U.S. dollars), a rise of 16.6 percent from the same period last year.

Statistics released by Beijing Municipal Commission of Agriculture show that farmers' salaries from local enterprises and earnings from family businesses are two major factors behind the fast growth in the income of the farmers.

Experts believe that the adjustment in the agricultural structure in the past years has also contributed to the extra cash for farmers.

The rural economy in the Chinese national capital has maintained a fast, healthy development trend since the beginning of the year, along with a boom in rural and township-run industries.

The suburbs of Beijing chalked up 27.23 billion yuan (about 3. 28 billion U.S. dollars) in gross domestic product from January to June, up 12.8 percent. The growth rate is, for the first time, higher than the economic increase rate of Beijing.

Overall, the industrial added value in the first six months made up 11.7 billion yuan (about 1.41 billion U.S. dollars), up 17. 9 percent, or accounting for 43 percent of the total volume of added value generated by the suburbs of Beijing.
