China Wins Pyongyang Table Tennis Invitational

China defeated the Democratic People's Republic of Korea 3-2 in the final to win the women's team title at the 15th Pyongyang International Table Tennis Invitational Tournament on August 15.

The Chinese team, composed of second-string paddlers, rallied from two matches down to beat the DPR Korean counterparts.

After losing the first two matches, Rao Jingwen defeated Kim Mi Yong 2-0 before 13-year-old Guo Ai edged Kim Yun Mi 2-0 to level the total score at 2-all.

In the fifth and decisive match, Li Xiaoxia, aged 14, trounced Kim Hyang Mi 2-0 to seal the victory for China.

In the men's team final, the DPR Korean team I defeated Japan 3- 2 to take the crown. China finished third with a 3-1 win over DPR Korean team II.

Paddlers from DPR Korea, Canada, Japan, India, Iran, China and China's Hong Kong are taking part in the tournament which began Monday. The tournament will end on Friday after singles matches.
