School Adjudicated to Take Responsibility for Student Attacked by PandaThe school of a student who was attacked by a giant panda has to take the responsibility for the attack, according to the decision made by a local court in southeast China's Sichuan Province.The Chenghua District Court of Chengdu decided that 14-year-old Qi Ming failed to follow his class when visiting the Giant Panda Breeding Technology Committee of China (GPBTCC) base last November. He dropped into the enclosure and was attacked by the otherwise amiable animals. The boy's head and left arm were seriously bitten and scratched by pandas, and he sued his school, Xindu No. 4 Middle School, and the GPBTCC base to the court. The court's decision said that although the school authorities had warned students before the visit, it failed to watch the student properly, and should take the major responsibility and should pay 30,000 yuan (about 3,600 US dollars) to the victim. The boy was judged minorly responsible for ignoring the instruction. As for the GPBTCC base, it has already posted precautions in the enclosure and put up bars. So it was declared innocent. |
