Honduras Deports Two Salvadorian Diplomats on Espionage Charges

Honduras deported on Wednesday two Salvadorian diplomats on charges of spying in complicity with two Hondurans, Honduran Foreign Minister Roberto Flores announced Wednesday, reports said.

"These two gentlemen will leave the country in the coming hours, " Flores was quoted by the reports as saying.

He said that hours after the arrest, he called Ambassador of El Salvador Sigifredo Ochoa to let him know that the two diplomats will have to leave Honduran territory.

Maj. Alejandro D. Reyes, assistant military attache of the Salvadorian embassy at Tegucigalpa, and Jose Marquina, secretary of the attache office, were arrested Tuesday by police.

Honduran citizens Doris Oliva, an employee of the National Defense College, and Thelma I. Aguilar, an employee of the Honduras Naval force, were also captured.

The four were caught red-handed in the General Luis Alonso Discua Military Hospital, where the two Hondurans were handing over documentation to the two Salvadorian officials, the reports said.

The two diplomats were released afterwards as they enjoy diplomatic immunity.
