Cooperation with China Successful: WFP

The cooperation programs jointly conducted by the World Food Program (WFP) and the Chinese government in southwest China's Guizhou Province were very successful, Catherine Bertini, WFP executive director, said on August 15.

She made the comment when meeting with Mo Shiren, vice-governor of Guizhou Province, in Guiyang.

She suggested that more women should get involved in the programs in order to achieve more in the future.

The WFP projects in the province include agricultural development, afforestation, and health care for women and children. The WFP has invested some 270 million yuan (32.5 million US dollars) in the projects while the Chinese government has pooled another 170 million yuan (20.5 million US dollars).

Over 800,000 people from 11 counties have benefited from the projects.

Currently, Guizhou is undertaking a rural infrastructure construction project with 10 million Australian dollars of free aid from the Australian government, and a technology aid program financed by the German government with four million Deutsche Mark. The two projects were all introduced to China by WFP.
