Macao to Enhance Judicial Cooperation with China's Inland

Courts from China's inland and the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) will cooperate more closely in dealing with civil and commercial cases, according to an agreement signed Wednesday.

The agreement was signed by Liu Jiachen, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court of China and Florinda da Rosa Silva Chan, secretary for administration and justice of the Macao SAR.

Under the agreement, courts from China's inland and Macao will provide each other with necessary evidence and judicial documents in handling civil and commercial cases.

Liu told the press that the judicial organs from Macao and China's inland will establish a more efficient cooperative mechanism under the principle of "one country, two systems," in an effort to better protect the people's legal rights in civil and commercial exchanges.

According to the Basic Law, the Macao SAR may, through consultations and in line with law, maintain judicial relations with the judicial organs of other parts of the country, and they may render assistance to each other.

Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao SAR, met with Liu and his delegation Wednesday afternoon.
