HK-Taiwan Economic Forum 2001 Held in Hong Kong
The Hong Kong Taiwan Economic Forum 2001 was held Wednesday in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, with the attendance of some 300 representatives from business community in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Started in 1997, the annual event provides a platform for economists from Hong Kong and Taiwan to discuss the way to further develop Hong Kong-Taiwan cooperation under topics of new times trend.

As for the forthcoming entry of the World Trade Organization (WTO) of both sides of the Taiwan Straits, this year's forum will be focused on subjects of policies of Hong Kong and Taiwan towards the WTO accession of both sides of the Taiwan Straits, the scientific and economic cooperation, and the way to boost the bilateral investment between Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The forum, which enters the fifth one since its inception, was organized by the Far East Trade Service Inc, the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, the Taiwan Business Association (HK) Ltd, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, and the Taipei Trade Center Hong Kong.

Organizers believe that Hong Kong and Taiwan are now faced with challenges of trade globalization, regional economic integration, innovative information technology and environmental protection worldwide.

The Hong Kong Taiwan Economic Forum will inject new driving force, given the fact that both sides of the Taiwan Straits will join in the WTO, which will bring a more open market.
