Hamburg Plan to Bid 2012 Olympic Games

Hamburg city officials laid out a plan Tuesday for a bid of the 2012 Olympic summer games with a concept of "seaport" dating back to the middle ages.

Hamburg said the Games would be held at various port cities on the Baltic and North seas or nearby rivers once linked through a trade pact called the "Hanseatic League."

According to the officials, a part of the Olympic village would be held on cruise ships while a 100,000 seat stadium would also be erected.

Germany's national Olympic committee will meet in Hamburg on November 2 to decide if it will back an Olympic bid. However, numerous top sports officials in the country have already publicly supported the idea.
