Gong Zhichao of China enjoyed an easy victory on the first day of the Singapore Open badminton tournament Wednesday in Singapore, demolishing Indonesia's Dian Vovita Sari 7-1, 7-2, 7-0.

Denmark's Camilla Martin, ranked fourth in the world, took barely 25 minutes to beat a nervous Li Li of Singapore 7-1, 7-0, 7- 3, setting up a meeting with Indonesian Atu Rosalina in the second round.

Singapore's Liu Zhen defeated Malaysia's Wong Mew Choo 7-0, 4-7, 4-7, 7-4, 7-3. She will meet in the second round with Chinese world number 12 Dai Yun.
