Int'l Engineering Symposium held in South China

An international symposium focusing on mechanics and materials engineering was held Tuesday in Changsha, the capital city of Changsha in south China's Hunan Province.

Sponsored by the Hunan-based Xiangtan University, the symposium was held exclusively for young scholars and was the first of its kind worldwide.

A total of 180 representatives from 20 countries and regions such as the United States, Russia as well as China participated in the event and presented a series of academic reports.

Mechanics and materials engineering are playing an important role in modern industry and are becoming increasingly interconnected, said Professor Zhou Yichun with Xiangtan University.

Experts from several internationally prestigious institutions, including the University of Cambridge and Stanford University, also attended the symposium.
