Symposium on IP Protection in Information Industry Held in GuangzhouAn international symposium on intellectual property protection in the information industry opened Tuesday in Guangzhou, the provincial capital of Guangdong.As many as 300 experts, scholars and officials will discuss a series of issues ranging from the intellectual property protection legislation in various sectors of the information industry, to the prospects of the Chinese information industry in the new century. The participants have reached a consensus that to enhance intellectual property protection is not only in the interests of foreign enterprises, but also a guarantee for the sound growth of Chinese IT firms. Piracy can do no good for China's economy, said Zheng Chengsi, a member of the Law Committee of Chinese National People's Congress (NPC). The state cannot collect tax from the pirates, and what is worse, Zheng said, is that China's software products will lose overseas markets if piracy is left unchecked. "If the rampant piracy makes the Chinese software producers non- competitive, our country's information industry as a whole will not develop soundly," he said. |
