IOC Issues Commemorative Cover for Congratulating Beijing's Olympics Win

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued a commemorative cover named "Congratulating Beijing on Its Becoming 2008 Olympics Host City" in both Chinese and English. The cover began to be distributed in China on August 13.

The commemorative cover includes stamps of Temple of Heaven, five-ring prints of the Olympic Games and two IOC official business stamps. IOC chairman Samaranch autographed the cover as a memento.

Since 1894, Olympics stamps, as important historical materials, have recorded all previous major events and figures of the Olympic Games.

According to sources from Ruishengde Company, which is authorized to sell the cover, 5 million commemorative covers will be issued in China and will be on sale beginning from August 13.

At the issuance ceremony, an official commemorative cover, Thanks for Mr. Chairman, was also issued on July 16 in five languages--Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish as an expression of the IOC's thanks to Samaranch for his contributions to promoting the development of the Olympic Games over the past 21 years. A total of 20,000 such covers will be issued in China.
