Candidates Nominated for New Legislative Assembly of MacaoA total of 106 Macao people have been nominated as the candidates for the 2nd Legislative Assembly, according to sources from the Public Administration and Civil Services Bureau Monday.In line with the Basic Law, the second Legislative Assembly of the Macao special administrative region (SAR) shall be composed of 27 members, including ten from direct election, ten from indirect election and seven appointed by the chief executive of the SAR. A voting for the new assembly is slated for September 23, which will be the most important election since Macao returned to the motherland at the end of 1999. The candidates are divided into 19 groups. Fifteen of them, including 96 people, will stand for direct election, and the other, for indirect election, according to Lidia da Luz, director of the Public Administration and Civil Services Bureau. The candidates include experts, businessmen, employees and public servants. The official said that Macao residents are very active in the election, citing that more than 160,000 people, out of 240,000 voting population, have drawn their voting certificates. |
