Nanjing Improves Environment for World Chinese Entrepreneur Convention
Nanjing,this capital of east China's Jiangsu Province is stepping up efforts to improve its environment for the sixth World Chinese Entrepreneur Convention, scheduled here from September 17 to 19.
The municipal government of Nanjing has injected over 9 billion yuan (about 1.1 billion U.S. dollars) into ten major infrastructure construction projects and eight environmental projects, said mayor Wang Hongmin in a recent interview.
Thanks to the city's landscaping efforts, more green belts and parks have appeared along the roads linking the downtown areas and the airport. The narrow old streets have been renovated around the International Exhibition Center, a major venue for the forthcoming convention.
Incomplete statistics show that the city has demolished 300,000 square meters of old houses and 55,000 square meters of unauthorized buildings, covered 1.5 million square meters of land with trees and grass, and renovated four kilometers of the ancient city wall.
Meanwhile, the city's traffic network is also undergoing upgrades, with the second Nanjing Yangtze Bridge already opened to road traffic, and a subway under construction.
In an effort to embrace the event, the municipal government has launched a series of activities to raise the moral and cultural standards of the citizens, call for quality services and maintain a good social order.
The world Chinese entrepreneurs convention was initiated as a biennial event by Chinese chambers of commerce in Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong in 1990. The previous five meetings were held in Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Vancouver and Melbourne respectively.
Some 5,000 people will attend this year's convention, which is designed to promote Chinese culture, cement ties and friendship among the business people of Chinese origin, and to advance business exchange and cooperation.
