Chen Lu Crowns at Women's Singles Figure Skating at China's National Games

Chen Lu Crowns at Women's Singles Figure Skating
Veteran Chen Lu once again showed she was the Queen of the Ice when she claimed the victory in the women's singles figure skating finals of the Chinese Ninth National Games in Beijing on August 12.

The former world champion from Jilin took the full advantage of her elegant presentation and managed an easy but fluent free skate in a French music "The Ocean".

Chen did not nail everything but was good enough to sweep the judges panel with scores as high as 5.9 for artistry but 5.4 for technical part.

The 25-year-old said:" I am happy to win the gold for my hometown Jilin. I am satisfied with my performance even though I did not regain my form."

Heilongjiang's Sun Siyin, who aimed to challenge Chen for the title but suffered a fall and two minor mistakes from jumping, came to the third while her teammate Fang Dan finished second in the free skate.

Sun took the silver medal with Fang, 16, placed third in the women's finals.

Chen's victory completed Jilin's dominance in the singles when Li Chengjiang wrapped up the gold medal in the men's contest early this afternoon.

A total of 38 skaters from 6 provinces and cities, including Hong Kong, China, competed in the three-day figure skating finals, which becomes an event at the quadrennial Chinese National Games for the first time.
