Beijing Ensures Social Order Ahead of Universiade

Some 4,000 police will be deployed around-the-clock on the streets of Beijing to ensure an orderly atmosphere for the upcoming 21st World University Games.

Sources with the Beijing Public Security Bureau said that a large security force including traffic police, armed police and volunteers has been drafted to patrol the streets on every shift.

The bureau has intensified the crackdown on crime over the past four months arresting 10,000 suspects mainly engaged in theft and robbery.

Officials from the municipal government and the bureau walked the streets Sunday to consult ordinary people for their opinions on the social order and the work of the police.
