HK Customs Head to Attend APEC Events in Shanghai

Raymond Wong Hung-chiu, commissioner of customs and excise of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), left for Shanghai Sunday to attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) events.

Wong will attend the 2001 APEC Customs-Business Dialogue from August 13 to 14, and the APEC Heads of Customs Informal Gathering on August 14 evening.

The APEC Customs-Business Dialogue is a traditional event of APEC Sub-Committee on Customs Procedures (SCCP) which aims at promoting Customs-Business co-operation. The theme for the 2001 Dialogue is "The New Economy - Moving Customs-Business Partnership and Trade Facilitation to the Next Level."

Wong will also attend the APEC Heads of Customs Informal Gathering to meet with other Customs Heads of the Asia Pacific Region.

The gathering provides a forum for the SCCP Chair to update the Customs Heads of the SCCP's activities.

"They will exchange views and share experiences to review the SCCP work agenda to enhance its efficiency," a spokesman for the Customs and Excise Department said.
