Typhoon Usagi to Hit Southern China CoastTyphoon Usagi, the 10th typhoon to strike China this year, has formed on the sea southwest of Hainan island, south China, the Central Meteorological Station (CMS) said Friday afternoon.In an emergency warning, the CMS said the center of Usagi was positioned 17.8 degrees north latitude and 108.1 degrees east longitude at 17:00 Friday afternoon. It is forecast to move west or northwest at 15 kilometers per hour, and land tonight on the coast in the northern part of Vietnam. Strong winds resulting from Usagi will hit the sea near the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Hainan island, and the Leizhou peninsula and the sea in the northern part of Nanhai and Beibu Bay. The typhoon will also bring torrential rains to the southern and western parts of Hainan island, the southwestern part of Guangdong and the southern part of Guangxi. |
