Bank of East Asia Opens Branch in Xi'an

The Hong Kong-based Bank of East Asia Ltd. has strengthened its services in the western part of the nation with the opening Friday of its first branch in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi province.

With the opening of this new branch, the bank will offer more convenience for businesses and individuals in the region, which is a land full of potential as the Chinese government has planned huge investment in infrastructure, hi-tech industry and other industrial sectors here.

The Xi'an branch will provide clients with comprehensive banking services based on foreign currency, including deposits, remittances, money exchanges, mortgage loans, credit cards, and consultation services.

Senior officials with the bank said that the leadership of the bank is very confident about the future of Xi'an and the region, adding that with China set to join the World Trade Organization later this year, the region's economy is forecast to grow vigorously.

The Bank of East Asia, incorporated in 1918, has branches and offices now in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Chengdu and other major cities in the mainland of China.
