Bookstore Highlighting Chinese Cultural Heritage Opens in Beijing

A bookstore specializing in historical books and literature opened Thursday in Beijing, offering readers from home and abroad a vivid look at the country's historical and cultural progress.

The Culture Heritage Bookstore, formerly the Reader Services Bureau of China Bookstore, has more than 60,000 titles of rare ancient books and records, cultural relics and literature materials.

Providing a range of services from exhibitions, sales, purchases, authentication, binding and repair of rare books, it actually serves as a vehicle through which many foreigners have formed an attachment with Chinese culture.

The two-storey store is located in Beijing's famous Liulingchang antique market.

On the first floor, customers can browse ancient stone inscriptions, hand-copied books and block-printed editions written within the past 1,000 years. On the second floor are newly published academic monographs for sale as well as art and historical literature, archeological references, and albums of rubbings of stone inscriptions.

The bookstore said it intends to continue its almost 30-year exchange with global readers and strive to provide more books for overseas libraries in north America, Europe, Japan, South Korea and Singapore.
