Zhejiang Launches Campaign to Crack-down on SmugglingPolice and coast-guard forces Thursday set off from Pingyang county, in east China's Zhejiang province, to crack-down on smuggling, secret ferries and other illegal activities. The half-year long campaign is to sweep out operations without licenses, unlawful trade and robberies, which are rampant in the sea areas near Pingyang county recently due to lack of rigid supervision, said Wu Zhaocheng, general director of the campaign. Located on the boundary between Zhejiang and neighboring Fujian province, Pingyang county was once considered an ideal place for lawbreakers because of loose supervision by the government here. Authorities will also rectify the order of economic and social life here on land during the coming months in close coordination with the offshore operation. |
