First Group of Tibetan University Students Get Education Aid

First Group of Tibetan University Students Get Education Aid
Fourteen students from three universities in Tibet received Friday grant-in-aid to sustain their schooling, which marks the start of the "West China Development and Education Aid Program" in Tibet.

The program has selected 50 students studying in universities in Tibet for the 5,000-yuan annual grant.

The students, all from low-income families in pastoral regions or families of laid-off workers can continue to receive the aid money until they graduate.

The educational program, initiated by the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Ministry of Education last year, aims to aid 1,100 impoverished students in 12 provinces and regions in west China.

Fifty students in Tibet can benefit from the program to finish their higher-learning education every year.
