China Exports Unique Honey to Europe

China's exclusive black bee honey has been exported to the markets of Europe Union countries this year.

During the first six months of this year, China had exported a total of 140 tons of such organic honey to Germany, and another 100 tons had been ordered.

The black bee in northeast China is one of the best varieties in China. The black bee honey once won a gold prize at an international fair of bee products in 1993, and was authenticated by the Organic Food Organization of EU.

Located in Raohe County in the Wusuli River Basins on the Sino- Russian border in northeast China, the black bee nature reserve covers an area of some 12,000 square kilometers. The water, air and soil there all reach the first class standards of the country and are fit for black bees to perch and breed.

The average temperature in Raohe is only 1.6 degrees Centigrade, and usually minus 40 degrees Centigrade in winter. This low temperature environment molds the black bee to be resistant to the cold and diseases, and so its honey is pure and has an higher content of active enzyme, explained Li Zhong, an official with the nature reserve administration.

In 1999, the State Development Planning Commission approved to establish the Northeast China Black Bee Honey Co. Ltd. It is expected that the company will produce 1,000 tons of honey by the end of this year.
