Cholera Shows No Sign of Abating in S. African ProvinceCholera showed no sign of abating in the eastern South African province of KwaZulu-Natal after claiming one more life on Wednesday, the provincial health department said.A 30-year-old woman died of the disease at the Osindisweni Hospital, bringing the death toll to 223 since the disease broke out in August last year. Fifteen others were admitted to hospitals in various parts of the province on the same day. So far the disease has infected 105,494 people, most of them in rural areas. The spread of the disease has been largely confined to rural areas with poor sanitation and no access to clean water. |
