Guangdong Reports Double-Digit Growth in Tariff Earnings
South China's Guangdong Province levied 34.39 billion yuan (about 4.14 billion US dollars) in tariffs in the first six months of the year.
Local customs sources said that the volume was up 19 percent or 5.51 billion yuan (about 664 million US dollars) more than the tariffs levied from January to June last year.
The tariff volume accounts for 28 percent of the total national taxes levied in the first six months of the year, according to the customs sources.
Industry experts attributed the major increase in the province's tariff earnings to a steady rise in imports, an introduction of reform measures designed to step up tariff levies at customs and improving work efficiency.
Guangdong, which has been designated as the country's forerunner of the reform and opening-up drive, has grown into China's leading foreign trade player.
