More Possibilities for Sino-US Cooperation: President JiangJiang made the remark at a meeting with a US congressional delegation led by Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Joseph Biden, Jr. at this north China summer resort. Also, the two countries have common interests in combating arms proliferation, environmental deterioration and international crime, Jiang said, noting that to such an end, the two countries should strengthen dialogue and mutual understanding. Jiang said that both the Chinese and the American people are great peoples and are proud of their own history. Despite certain turns and twists in bilateral ties during the past half century, China-US relations in general are going forward, he said. "History teaches us that cooperation is beneficial for our two countries and confrontation is harmful for both," he said. The Chinese people have always held friendly feelings towards the American people, he said, adding that he hoped concerted efforts would be made for the advancement of bilateral ties and a bright future for the two countries. Biden said he saw great changes in China after an interval of 22 years since his first China tour in 1979. He said he came to China with a friendly and amiable spirit towards China. The US hopes to see a developed and powerful China, as such a situation conforms with the interests of both the US and China.
