Beijing Sets Up Preparatory Office of Organizing Committee for 2008 Olympics

A preparatory office of the organizing committee for the 29th Olympic Games was set up Tuesday, kicking off the seven-year-long preparation for the 2008 Games.

Beijing vice mayor Liu Jingmin, who heads the office, listed three major tasks for the office.

The office will work out a general framework of the 2008 Olympics and lay out a blueprint on how to form the Games' organizing committee, said Liu.

The office will also receive useful advice both from home and abroad, which can be adopted in the committee's plan for the Olympics, he added.

The vice mayor said Beijing is to set up the Olympic Games organizing committee in five months as required by the International Olympic Committee.
