Baosteel Responds to Canada's Anti-dumping Charge

Shanghai Baosteel Corporation is reported to have achieved good results in its first response to Canada's Anti-Dumping charge. According to Canada Customs and Revenue Agency's final judgement on the anti-dumping charge of hot-rolled steel plate products, the anti-dumping tax rate for Baosteel's hot-rolled steel plates have been cut from early 96 percent to 2.8 percent, ranking lowest among those for all the enterprises of 13 countries involved.

The result is satisfactory, noted the person concerned of Baosteel. The international trade department of Baosteel believed that the judgement nearly bring no impact on the sales of its hot-rolled steel plates in the Canadian market.

Canada carried out anti-dumping investigation on imported hot-rolled steel plates in January this year. The investigation involved hot-rolled steel plates 4.75 millimeters thick and imported from dezens of enterprises of 13 countries. China's Baosteel Corporation, Benxi Steel Group and Anshan Steel (Group) Co. were on the list.

Baosteel is the most experienced enterprise in responding to foreign anti-dumping charges. Following the agreement signed in 1996 as the result of its first response to foreign anti-dumping charge, Baosteel has succeeded in responding the anti-dumping charges in the US's cold-rolled steel plate anti-dumping case and Indonesia's steel tube anti-dumping case. Presently it still has two charges to be ended. One is the response to the US's hot-rolled steel plate charge; the other is the case of Canada cold-rolled plate charge.
