Alcatel Wins Contract to Expand GSM Network in Tibet
The French telecommunications equipment maker Alcatel said on Tuesday that it had won a contract to expand the GSM network of
Tibet
Mobile in the Tibet autonomous region.
Financial details were not released.
The plans call for raising network capacity to 280,000 subscribers, with work to begin at the end of this year.
Tibet Mobile is a subsidiary of the telecommunications operator
China Mobile
.
Alcatel and Tibet Mobile have worked together since 1999, when the French operator installed a GSM system in the Ali region of Tibet.
