Zimbabwe Police Arrest 22 Whites for Attacking Resettled Farmers
Twenty-two white commercial farmers armed with logs, sticks and batons have been arrested after they brutally attacked defenseless resettled farmers at Liston Shield farm in Chinhoyi of northern Zimbabwe, The Herald newspaper reported on Wednesday.
During the clash on Tuesday, five of the resettled farmers were seriously injured and admitted to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital, the paper said.
The police were quoted as saying that the culprits are expected to appear at the Chinhoyi Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Phillip Chiyangwa, Chinhoyi member of parliament, Tuesday condemned the brutality on the resettled farmers, saying: "I would like to warn white farmers in the area to cooperate with the government's fast track land resettlement program and to advise them that all settlers under this program are legitimately protected by the recently enacted legislation, the Rural Land Occupiers Act."
