Foreign Ships Bumped in Dalian, Leaked Oil not Cause Massive Sea PollutionAs learnt from the State Maritime Affairs Bureau of Ministry of Communications that at 12:50, August 7, two Panamanian container ships collided in the waters near Dayao Port of Dalian. One ship's fuel cabin was damaged and more than 100 tons of light oil were leaked into the sea. The water area of Dalian Harbor was seriously threatened by oil pollution.Right after the happening of the accident, Liaoning Maritime Affairs Bureau immediately launched the "maritime oil pollution emergency plan". Officials and workers rushed to the spot the first moment and quickly set up oil railings to prevent the oil from further diffusion. Measures have been taken to prevent fire and explosion and for retrieving the oil pollution. Leaders of the State Maritime Affairs Bureau of Ministry of Communication also harried to China Maritime Rescue Center in good time to instruct the clearing work. With the emergency measures taken by Liaoning Maritime Affairs Bureau, the oil pollution has been put under control. The bureau keeps a watch on the monitoring and cleaning work of the pollution. The cause and damage of the accident are still under investigation. Leaked Oil Won't Cause Massive Sea PollutionAt 12:45 am Tuesday, in a sea area near Dalian, two Panamanian cargo ships collided and over 100 tons of diesel oil leaked into sea from one of the ships, which was badly damaged. The other ship was also damaged, but there was no report of casualties on either ship. The local maritime security department has attributed the accident to a heavy fog on the sea. Immediately after the accident, the two ships were escorted into Dalian port and they are now anchored in the harbor. Meanwhile, oil blocks and oil-absorbing felts were immediately brought to the scene and used to prevent the polluted area from further spreading. The clean-up work is still continuing.
