Beijingers Lead Better Life

Residents in China's capital improved their living standard in the first half of this year, with both urban and rural dwellers scoring a higher income.

According to the Municipal Bureau of Statistics, the disposable income of urban residents climbed six percent in the first half of this year to 5,779 yuan (about 690 USdollars), and the net income of rural residents shot up 16.6 percent to 2,942 yuan.

Beijing had a GDP (the value of goods and services produced) of 123.37 billion yuan during the January-June period, up 11 percent. Its GDP has been growing at an average annual percent since 1998.
