Ancient Chinese Scholartree Protected as Shanxi's Cultural Relic
A 2,000-year-old Chinese scholartree dating back to the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.- 220 A.D.) in Pingding County, north China's Shanxi Province, has been designated as a cultural relic under special protection.
This 30-meter-high tree was believed to be planted in 206 B.C., in the early period of the Western Han. It has an erect and solid trunk without any holes. Although having gone through a long history, the tree with the diameter of 2.9 meters is still luxuriantly green with branches and leaves.
Besides, a well near the tree provides sweet water for local residents.
