Progress Made in Investigations into Nandan Mine Accident

Great progress has been made in investigations into the serious accident that occurred on July 17 in the Nandang Mine��south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

That day a serious water leakage accident occurred in the Lajiapo Mine and the Longshan Mine, both attached to the Nandan County Longquan Mining and Smelting Plant.

The plant, an individually-run firm, employs 2,000 people. After the accident occurred, the owners of the plant attempted to cover up the truth of the accident from the general public.

On August 5 ��great progress was made in investigations into the accident. Fifteen people including General Manager Li Dongming��all of whom attempted to conceal the truth of the accident, were detained by the police.

The cause of the accident and the exact death toll are under investigation.
