Visitor arrivals in Hong Kong grew 10 percent in June compared with the same month in 2000, boosted by the strong growth in the number of visitors from the Chinese mainland, Republic of Korea, Thailand and India, according to the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) Monday.

For the first half of 2001, a total of 6,649,716 visitors have been to Hong Kong, an increase of 7.5 percent on the year-ago period. This figure remains closely in line with HKTB's forecast growth of 7.8 percent for 2001 as a whole.

Some 63.3 percent of visitors in June stayed for one night or longer, compared to 66 percent in June 2000.

Average hotel occupancy across all categories in June was 76 percent and the rate was 78 percent for the first six months of 2001, compared to 80 percent and 82 percent in the corresponding period of 2000.
