Shanghai Tourism Revenues Reach 90 Billion YuanThis Chinese leading industrial and commercial city raked in 90 billion yuan (10.8 billion US dollars) in tourism revenues in 2000, statistics show.Revenues from international tourism hit 1.6 billion US dollars, up 18.3 percent, and domestic tourism 77.5 billion yuan (9.3 billion US dollars), up 7.7 percent from the previous year. Visitors from Taiwan made the largest increase, or 31.7 percent, among tourists from overseas. According to statistics, Shanghai received 1.8 million overseas visitors, up 9.5 percent from the previous year. They included 1. 43 million foreigners (up 8.1 percent), 176,000 tourists from Hong Kong and Macao (up 2.4 percent), and 199,000 Taiwanese (up 31.7 percent). The number of tourists from the rest of the Chinese mainland to the city was 78.5 million last year, up 4.7 percent from the previous year. Statistics show that visitors from Asian countries have hit the highest level reached four years ago, and visitors from Europe keep steady increasing and visitors from America and Oceania are picking up. At present Asian tourists account for 64 percent of the total foreign tourists to the city, Americans 12 percent, Europeans 18 percent and Oceanian people 3 percent. |
