Xinhua Commentary Urges Increase of Exports

Xinhua News Agency issued a commentator's article Monday urging an export increase, as exports are very important for the overall national economy.

Increasing exports is important for the healthy development of the national economy, and the stable growth of employment, taxation and foreign exchange reserves, the article pointed out.

Since the beginning of this year, China has seen an obvious slowdown of exports, with negative growth in June, which is an obvious problem for the country's current economic development, said the commentator.

Although in the first half of this year, China's exports increased 8.8 percentage points compared to the same period of last year, the export growth rate has declined since March, which presages a tough export situation for the second half of this year.

"This is the result of both international and domestic influences," noted the commentator, adding that the negative influence has been exacerbated by the slowing U.S. and Japanese economies, since he United States is China's largest export market and Japan is China's largest trade partner.

Meanwhile, the worsening regional trade protectionism has hindered China's efforts to increase its exports. With production costs increasing, the competitiveness of China's traditional export products has weakened.

The commentator said that exports have played an important role in China's national economy; one fifth of China's GDP is realized through exports.

But room still exists for China to increase its exports. China' s national economy has kept a good momentum since the beginning of this year, which has provided favorable condition for increasing exports. Joint ventures, private enterprises and other enterprises have increased their exports by large margins.

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council have paid close attention to exports. Moreover, China has issued a series of new measures to encourage exports this year, noted the commentator.

"We are sure to conquer all kinds of difficulties and increase our exports, so long as we make great efforts and work hard," concluded the commentary.
