Chinese Acupuncture Attracts Foreign Learners

The Acupuncture and Moxibustion Institute under the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine has contribute a lot to the spread and development of Chinese acupuncture since it was founded in 1951.

In the past 50 years the institute has conducted almost all the major studies at national level with great achievements gained. It has worked out the first international standard names of acupoint as well as China's standard location of acupuncture points. It has also founded China Acupuncture and Moxibustion Association and World Acupuncture and Moxibustion Association, being the first international medical organization having its headquarters located in China. Since 1985 the institute has conducted 27 national studies and 24 natural science projects. As a result China's biggest acupuncture professional group has now come into being, that consists of academicians and senior scientists from China Academy of Engineering and tutors for students engaging in studies for doctoral and master degrees.

In recent 20 years the institute has fostered altogether 106 masters and 18 doctors. Meanwhile, it has received over 4000 visitors from more than 100 countries and regions, and sent out over hundred experts to give lectures in more than 30 countries.

The recent 26 years have seen it provide training courses and practice opportunities for 6400 acupuncture and moxibustion workers from 104 countries in collaboration with the traditional medicine cooperation center under the World Health Organization.
