South Korean Wig Firm Charged with Body Search
Female employees are taking legal action against the Republic of Korean proprietor of a Shenzhen wig manufacturer, claiming they were subjected to coercive body searches.
The searches were allegedly conducted by the managerial staff of Bao Yang Industrial who believed the 56 employees were stealing wig materials on July 30. However, it is claimed that not a single hair was found on those suspected.
The employees have demanded that the factory make a public apology to them and pay 30,000 yuan (3,600 U.S. dollars) to each of them in compensation.
On acceptance of the case, a local court has ordered the factory to reply to the accusation within 15 days unless the employees drop the charge.
The factory's Korean owners have denied the claims. An executive manager, who identified himself as Lee, told China Daily, "Every Factory will conduct regular checks in case workshop stealing occurs and we made checks, not body searches."
He denied the number of "checked" as 56, but only 10. He hoped to solve the problem without court action and considered the demanded compensation too high.
The municipal authorities said the incident will be thoroughly investigated and dealt with according to law by relevant departments.
