Shanghai Holds Int'l Shark Festival

A two-week international shark festival opened in Shanghai, this east China metropolis over the weekend.

Scores of full-grown sharks are stars of the festival. One of them, 3.2 meters long, fascinates every visitor when it swims out of its temporary cave in the underground oceanarium of Changfeng Park.

Visitors walking in the corridor through the "ocean" can see closely how these ferocious creatures coexist with small fish and shrimps. The sharks allow divers to feed and tickle them, and even give them a free ride.

Basketball stars joined the team of festival stars to meet their fans at Saturday's opening ceremony.
