Tung Chee Hwa Meets Outstanding Chinese Youth

Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa Saturday met with six outstanding students from overseas, Hong Kong and Taiwan in his office.

The students have returned to Hong Kong following a visit to the Chinese mainland from July 8 to 22 under the third "China Synergy Program for Outstanding Youth" (CSPOY).

The six students are from the Stanford University, the Columbia University, the University of Toronto, Taiwan University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

More than 200 outstanding ethnic Chinese students, mostly from overseas, took part in the trip which started from Hong Kong and covered Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

The chief executive noted that the visit enabled the participants to better understand the development in Hong Kong since the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, as well as the socio-economic, technological and cultural developments in the mainland.

It also provided a valuable opportunity for cultural exchanges among the participants, who came from overseas, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan as well as the mainland, he said.
