CPC Official Meets Japanese Visitors

Zeng Qinghong, alternate member of the Political Bureau and member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met Saturday afternoon with former Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan Hiromu Nonaka and his party in Beidaihe, Hebei Province.

Zeng said that the year 2002 will be the 30th anniversary of the normalization of Sino-Japanese diplomatic relations, and in the past years, governments, political parties, and non- governmental personages of the two countries have made unremitting efforts for a healthy and steady development of bilateral ties.

Both sides should value the sound situation which was not easy to come by, and handle existing problems in the bilateral relations in the spirit of learning from history and looking forward to the future, so as to push for a greater development of bilateral ties in the new century, noted Zeng.

Nonaka recalled his meeting with Zeng in April last year in Japan and expressed his pleasure at meeting again with Zeng in China.

He said it is very important for Japan and China to cherish a good relationship, and former leaders of the two countries have paved the way for the development of bilateral relations after long efforts.

The next year will be an important one since it is the 30th anniversary of the normalization of bilateral diplomatic ties, noted Nonaka.

He expressed that the Japanese side will make joint efforts with the Chinese side to promote a healthy development of bilateral relations, so as to turn the two countries into regional cooperative partners in peace and development.

The delegation arrived in Beijing on August 1 on a friendly visit to China at the invitation of the CPC.

Dai Bingguo, head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, held talks with the delegation on August 1.
