Indonesia's New Cabinet to Have 3 Coordinating Ministers: Vice President

Indonesian Vice President Hamzah Haz said on Friday that, unlike the administration under deposed president Abdurrahman Wahid, the new Cabinet would go back to its previous formation with three coordinating ministries.

The three coordinating ministries would be people's welfare, economic affairs and political, social and security affairs.

Hamzah reiterated that the new Cabinet lineup would be announced on August 9, and would be officially installed the next day on August 10.

Hamzah made the remarks after chairing a United Development Party (PPP) meeting in Jakarta on Friday.

He denied rumors that the Indonesian Military (TNI) had asked for eight seats in the new Cabinet lineup.

Regarding those to hold posts in the Cabinet economic team, Hamzah said, they should be honest, market-friendly and widely known by the international community as well as having a high level of integrity. They must also be able to work with the House of Representatives, he added.

Concerning the country's economic situation, the vice president stressed after Friday prayers at the At-Taqwa Mosque that the government would be careful in its efforts to restore the economy and stabilize security so as to prevent the country from courting further disaster.
